Paintings by Lisa Krannichfeld

Growing up the American South and being raised by a Chinese family, Lisa Krannichfeld experienced the may ways women are oppressed and made subservient by tradition. In this light, her paintings are an act of rebellion.

It’s not my responsibility to be beautiful. I’m not alive for that purpose. My existence is not about how desirable you find me. —Warsan Shire

Lisa breaks from tradition by using traditional Chinese materials in uncontrolled and freeing ways. Her women are allowed to be, they are allowed to feel how they feel.
