RESeT Convertible Concept Car Is Inspired by Sailboat and Focuses on Volkswagen Design Philosophy

VW RESeT is Paulo Italiani’s master thesis that tells a story about an ecological convertible car concept aims to bring the passengers the luxury of the future by setting ourselves free from the “network”. This is the kind of freedom that can only be enjoyed by sailing a boat, feeling the sea breeze far away from the over connected urban centers.

The field of mobility and transportation is living a crucial moment after the economical and ecological crisis. Sooner or later the cars will come out with alternative fuel or electric engines. The driver experience will change dramatically, and the “vroom” effect from the combustion engine will vanish. It’s time to rethink the feelings that will replace the traditional driving pleasures.

The VW RESeT proposes the new concept of convertible car, inspired by the sail boats and focused in the Volkswagen design philosophy:

  • VW UP! Concept (a car as a high efficiency product.)
  • Scirocco (the emotion behind the wheel)
  • Sail Boats (The high end materials used on RESeT can be found inside of the greatest sailboats in the world)

Engine, Wheels and Steering Technology
The RESeT Maglev Wheel and Engine system are linked to the car by the Retractable Superconductive Ceramic Pistons, in order to make the wheel easily removable. The energy necessary to put the vehicle in motion is insignificant, thanks to the absence of friction. The wheel literally float along the inner wheel arch.

The Sail and The Solar Panels
The windshield and windows are covered with transparent solar panels, which are placed over a special material able to change opacity to increase the energy absorption efficiency. The solar panel covered Sails open like the insect wings, getting the power from the wind, the energy of the sun, and the leisure of a convertible car.

Reset Manifesto: From the Evolution of design to the revolution of technology
The connection between the human and the network will increase exponentially in the next few decades. There won’t be any time to “reset” yourself free from the 24hs connection, physically or mentally. The transportation industry will play an important role over this issue.

In the coming decades the industry will reach a perfect amalgam between design and engineering. The future products will be generated by the ultimate evolution of the manufacturing process. The result will be a clean object designed to reach its full performance.

The design value and the perception of the beauty will be expressed by objects, which every line has a purpose and a specific function. The difference between form and performance will no longer exist. Every single component of a car will be exposed. The complex mystery hidden beneath the hood among cables and metal will be history. A beautiful object will be edge-less. The next diamond is a perfect translucent sphere.
