DUST – Lamp Made from Natural Material by Subinay Malhotra

Submitted by Subinay Malhotra, this project is about creating a functional object from natural material.

DUST is a special lamp design conceptualized using the naturally existing material in India – Terracotta. The material has been used in order to conceive a lamp that supports a speaker unit and can be accessed through wireless technology.

The material is 100% sustainable and has its own beneficial properties. Working with an organic material and combining it with technology, it gives another dimension in design about how a natural material baked and fired at 1200-degree Celsius can produce a product that remains the way it is and also has its own strength and properties. The acoustic nature of the material enhances the sound quality of the product.

The product focuses more on material exploration and how ludic aesthetics bring out the beauty of the product. Easy to manufacture and natural patterns give it another advantage of producing products using natural material and helping in sustainable growth of making products.
