Illustrations and Animations by Oamul Lu

I am an illustrator living in Xiamen, China.I currently work in an Internet company and am responsible for building 3D animation for them. However in my spare time, I keep drawing, creating gifs, and making toy models. I created my first picture book  "Found A Star" last year. It’s about good news and great stories, because I want to share with everyone what I’ve seen, heard and experienced in daily life and hope the readers can find their own wonderful life.

When I went to university though, I chose Interior Design. Although interior design is very different from what I create now, it still has a big influence in my work. After I graduated, I learnt 3D animation in a computer game company. Those experiences were crucial in influencing my work today.

The Brilliant Paintings of ARANTZAZU MARTINEZ

An academic  painter from Vitoria, Spain. She attended the Fine Arts University of the Basque Country and graduated in 2000.  Unable to find any classical art training, she moved to New York. There she enrolled in the New York Academy   of Figurative Art (NYAA) MFA program and graduated in 2002.

It was during this same year that she met her mentor, Jacob Collins, the founder of the Water Street Atelier, the Hudson River Fellowship and  The Grand Central Academy.  To develop her training still further she studied under him at the Water Street Atelier from 2002 to 2005,  where she completed her training following the nineteenth century academic  method.

The technical expertise, the considered  compositions, the exceptional treatment of light and the human form are evident  and much appreciated in Martinez’s  work. The symbiotic relationship of these elements creates imagery that evokes   Romanticism and Symbolism.

Her work has the ability to recreate a dream world where magic and fantasy are  part of reality.

Thibaud Herem is a French illustrator based in London. After completion of  a graphic design degree he established himself as a freelance illustrator. Following the success of his first book “Know Your Rodent” he began to develop further his love of illustrating buildings. Working with pencil and Indian inks his work has continued to evolve.  Today he has refined a distinct signature style and specialises in creating architectural drawings with an incredible level of hand drawn detail.

Beneath The Abyss

Kit is a Freelance Illustrator and Designer based in Singapore. Telling stories through her work is what she lives for and you can often find her drawing away and working on projects while having a good mug of tea. She is a recent graduate of The Glasgow School of Art Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honors) in Communication Design.

Well, basically she just really likes doodling and making weird .gifs out of her work.

3D Printed Dichroic Light Diffuser Creates Cool, Surreal Reflections

The light’s frame is printed in ceramic, the inner network of chambers hold the LED’S, directing and choreographing light through the entire structure, a repeated geometry rotates around the LEDs with a series of suspended dichroic mirrored squares positioned in the geometry openings, these can be reconfigured in order to change the quality of the emitted light and the illusion of it’s intensity. The 3d printed ceramic external frame unfolds like a lantern revealing it’s light source to alter the light’s character and form as necessary, sections pivot from the main frame creating a dynamic envelope and shadows once illuminated. The light ‘s geometry gives it a sculptural feel when not used. The light can also be printed from recycled polymers, currently working on using re-cycled post consumer waste plastics including synthetic polymer packaging like take-away food containers as well as 3d printer offcuts.

Household mirrors are never 100% reflective, the concentrator light’s design uses dichroic mirrors which have 99.98% reflectivity. Dichroic mirrors can reflect light 1000 times before escaping the mirrored envelope so the illusion of light intensity within the 3d printed envelope can be up to 1000 times higher compared to a lamp without mirrors, however, the energy conservation remains the same, it is not altered as new photons are not created, the existing light is intensified within the area of the 3d printed envelope, concave mirrors are used to trap and reflect light more effectively, holographic and dichroic filtered elements are positioned within the cross-section of the 3d printed structure, these create a series of surreal reflections and light intensity.

The dichroic LED concentrator light is a type of optical resonator similar to that of a laser pulse trapped between two parallel mirrors.

There appears to be more light as it is reflected rather than absorbed by for example wallpaper, furniture etc. instead the dichroic light gives the illusion of more light because we are wasting less of it and creating a more efficient environment from which to emit the light from.
