Project description

Squeezed into a tight space in the inner city suburb of Abbotsford, the ‘Little Brick Studio’ attempts to engage at the urban scale of the busy street (and brick buildings opposite), but is also sensitive to the smaller residential scale of the houses behind.

Composed of a garage with a studio space above, the footprint of the building is kept as small as possible to ensure the impact on the house and backyard is minimal. The angled roof form of the building comes from a desire to squeeze in a small studio space within the volume and also minimise the height (and therefore overshadowing) at the rear. The studio space has been designed as a flexible space that can grow and change with family needs. The nearby brick factories in Abbotsford inspired the textured brick finish.

Rather than create another rear garage door that turns its back on the busy street, we wanted the Little Brick Studio to make a positive contribution to the neighbourhood by treating it as an important address and frontage. The garage door is recessed and forms part of the fence language that wraps the base of the building. The brick studio above hangs out over the street with a large window that engages with the street and timber door at lower level giving it a sense of entry and address. The public private edge is blurred by the building overhanging above.

A4 Foldable Scooter That You Can Toss In Your Handbag

Amazing! Yes, we are amazed by the design of A4 Foldable Scooter. George Mabey has done a great job in redefining the meaning of portable transportation. We already have foldable scooter in the market but nothing like this, some of them are even too bulky and awkward to carry. A4 scooter design can be folded compact enough that you can toss it inside a handbag, yep, this award-winning concept is so small that you won’t even bother others when carry it on a bus or a train.

This concept scooter is developed by linking pieces of aluminum with a cable. User can tighten and pull these pieces together to support an adult’s weight. This scooter weighs just around 11lbs or 5kg, very light for a vehicle. If you are interested in this product, you might want to prepare for £1,000, it might be commercially available soon.

Food Machine Project Can Be Accessed from Anywhere In The World

Exploring the food preparation, this is one of the main goals of Food Machine project. We received this design submission from Peter Johansson Kukacka, together with his other friends: Christian Isberg, Lasse Korsgaard, and Carl Berglöf, they want to get deeper understanding on how food interact, thus, resulting in a digital platform that acts as a framework for the discussion.

This digital platform is connected with a physical machine that translates digital dialogue to a form of input, the input comes from those who contribute to the project and later processed by the machine. There are 5 chefs who participate in this project, using their own computers, they create a dish together. Basically, they cook from different places and make one dish together, this machine is built for that purpose with unique interface. They can choose ingredients, temperature, flavors, textures, and variety of spices.

There are 35 different functions/ingredients which have been carefully selected through a collaboration with the chef Carl Berglof. Each one has its own purpose, therefore, participants can use the functions of the machine to mix ingredients in a pot. This project researches on how different people given the framework respond to other’s decisions during collaborative and interaction in the making of the food.
