abandoned-playgrounds: Mr. Blobby’s House - Dunblobbin - After...

abandoned-playgrounds:

Mr. Blobby’s House - Dunblobbin - After being a featured character on Noel’s House Party, Mr. Blobby received great success and had a couple of theme parks opened in his honour. This Blobbyland at Crinkley Bottom closed only after being open for 2 years. Mr. Blobby received a bunch of negative attention after it was described as portraying ‘a nation gone soft in the head’, though that innuendo seems a bit harsh for a kids show. After this it all went down hill and now Mr. Blobby is only known to those who watched him while they were growing up.

The park of Blobbyland was reverted back to a wildlife park after its closure, but his sweet home of Dunblobbin still remained behind alone. It is said that during the later 1990’s and on that Dunblobbin has been used as the site for wild raves and parties. Though the ravers could have been more respectful to the stuff left in Mr. Blobby’s home, I really can’t blame them for their choice, as this is one trippy home.

Dunblobbin was a good name, I feel like I’m done blobbing all the time.

abandoned-playgrounds:

…It is unknown when exactly this house was abandoned but it must have been sometime after the 1980′s due to the fact that the heater in the flooded basement is labeled “Sterling Oil Company”, a business which came to being in 1983 for Virginia residents. The basement looks to be flooded with at least 3 to 4 feet of stagnant water…

abandoned-playgrounds:

The Church of the Town of Potosi - When the Uribante reservoir of Venezuela had its waters start to recede in 2008 the church of Potosi began to show and by 2010, 25 years after the town was flooded, the entire church was almost completely un-submerged. There was a 98 feet drop in the water level of the Uribante Reservoir, due to drought and weather patterns caused by El NiƱo. The former glory of the town of Potosi was to be seen again. Some former resident found joy in seeing there old home again but it was not without its own sadness at how severe the drought had become.

abandoned-playgrounds: North Brother Island - Unused until 1885,...

abandoned-playgrounds:

North Brother Island - Unused until 1885, Riverside Hospital was moved to North Brother Island from Blackwell’s Island (now Roosevelt Island which you can read about here). Riverside Hospital was founded in the 1850’s and used to treat and isolate victims of Smallpox and eventually other quarantinable diseases. North Brother Island was chosen as it was a place able to be segregated from society. This is the island that Typhoid Mary was confined to for over 20 years until she died in 1938. Riverside Hospital closed shortly after this. After World War II the island was used as housing for war veterans and their families who were students at local colleges, but only for a short time as the island was then abandoned shortly after. After this, in the 1950’s a facility opened on the island to treat adolescent drug addicts. The center for treatment offered rehabilitation and education to young drug offenders. Heroin addicts were confined to the island and locked in their room until they were clean. Many of the offenders believed they were being held against their will. By the 1960’s staff corruption and patient recidivism forced the center to shut down. Again it was abandoned and left in solitude.

Pidhirtsi Castle - The exterior was built with brick and stone. During the 17th century it was surrounded but vineyards and gardens, and had a grange, apiary, private zoo, a mill, and a trout pond. It was guarded by a moat with a drawbridge, fortified walls with bastions and iron cannons. At the entrance there is a marble plaque that reads in Latin: ‘A crown of military labours is victory, victory is triumph, triumph is rest’. The interior was initially richly furnished, with the western part of the castle being for guests and the eastern was private for the owners and servants. There was also a library, the Guardroom, knight’s room, and then suits with names like the Crimson Room, Chinese Room, Mirror Room, Green Room, and Yellow Room. The floors were made of marble tile and each room had a marble fireplace in it.
