abandoned-playgrounds:

The Whiteford Point Lighthouse, lovely cast-iron architecture. It was built in 1865 by Llanelli Harbour and Burry Navigation Comissioners. The only wave-swept cast-iron lighthouse of this size it Britain, it was built to mark the shoals of Whiteford Point. It stands at a height of 44 feet, with the base being a 24 feet wide pitched stone apron, and goes to 11 feet 6 inches in width at lantern level. The lighthouse can be reached on foot at low tide. Discontinued in the 1920’s but re-lit in the 1980’s. Later the lights solar unit failed and was removed and not replaced. It is now owned by Carmarthenshire County Council.
