 Micallef’s paintings are diving in between social commentary and self-examination. Bright colors here sometimes belies the troubling nature of his imagery. Figures and faces emerge from Micallef’s veils of loose, abstract brushstrokes. 

 "The trouble with pop imagery is that it doesn’t really go deeper than the surface, you have to drag it down and challenge it to make it interesting, marry contrasting emotions and motifs. The union of two opposites makes an intriguing and strange chemistry.“

Born (1989) into an artistic family in Germany, Alma Haser is now based in London and the East Coast. Specializing in carefully constructed portraiture influenced by her creativity and background in fine art, Alma creates striking work that catches the eye and captivates the mind.

Expanding the dimensions of traditional portrait photography, Alma takes her photographs further, using inventive paper-folding techniques to create layers of intrigue around her subjects, manipulating their portraits into futuristic flattened-paper sculptures.
