The Superb Drawings of Ferdy Remijin

Ferdy Remijn (‘86) is an illustrator/artist based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. His work showcases exotic animals which are living in a parallel world, they find themselves in curious situations and sometimes interfere with human habits. His fascination towards taxidermy is clearly reflected in his work, however the animals are anything but dead. They’re quite vivid and fully aware of their surroundings.

jenniferdlinton:

In my print-based installation entitled The Disobedient Dollhouse (2009-10), I recreated the highly-detailed interiors of a Victorian-style dollhouse, but with a surreal, subversive twist. For instance, although the conventional Victorian domestic scene of a woman playing piano has been dutifully rendered, the woman depicted is a hybrid creature with the head of a bird. A chair located in the same room as the bird-headed woman mysteriously sprouts twisted floral vines that snake up the back wall. Gigantic insects infiltrate the room and swarm across the ornate damask wallpaper like a strange, inexplicable virus. These hybrid monsters, giant insects and fantastic vegetal growths disturb the inherent sentimentality of nostalgia and propose a dark, secret world that churns just beneath the veneer of domestic perfection.

Most of the elements within my dollhouse are hand-drawn and printed lithographs (stone lithography) which have been cut out, folded and glued. The dollhouse wallpaper was created digitally and printed on matte inkjet paper. A scaled-up stencil of the wallpaper was painted directly on the gallery walls.

Château Rouge ~ The Red Castle : Update 2018

Located along Chemin de Saint-Loup 1, Huy, Walloon Region, Province of Liege, Belgium.

Also know as Chateau Titantia or Chateau Bambi it was built in 1889. At one time a retirement home for the elderly. Later it was reinvented to a luxury hotel after World War II. Due to financial woes it was closed in 2009.

Scarce information is found online, maybe locals know more. Perhaps there will be hope of a renovation and re opening one day. It was not so so long ago abandoned. The exterior is brick and derives its nickname from the red painted walls. Tapestries decay along stairwell walls. Deterioration can be seen by the peeling wall paper and ceilings tiles that are falling in at spots. Rotting sofas, chairs, beds and more losing luster. Chandeliers and other decorative lights are laden in dust. A one of a kind place. It is below the Centrale Nucléaire de Tihange (A Nuclear Power Station) and is just on the out skirts of the Bois de Tihange (a beautiful forest).

Soaring Anchor Designs

Soaring Anchor Designs is the artist name for an independent digital artist, designer, inventor, and maker of things.

I try and draw inspiration from everything around me, while always accompanied by my furry son & constant companion. Each day, I look to see the beauty in everything and find the things that fuel my imagination. I’m influenced by my deep love of all animals, nature, the great outdoors, and all things imaginary and magical, while always trying to see things from a new perspective. The best ideas can come to you in dreams, either by day or night, and that is where these “dream-inspired designs” are usually born. The designs are like snapshots from my imagination, and always try and portray light and darkness, both literally and figuratively.
