Doboz Takes Budapest’s “Ruin Bar” Concept to the Next Level
Situated on Klauzál Street, in the party-centric District 7, Doboz (Box) is likely to set the tone for Budapest’s next generation of ruin pubs. With 5 different bars, 2 dance floors, and a big, beautiful courtyard watched over by a red-eyed iron King Kong, the establishment is the largest and most unique of the city’s ramshackle gems.
Designed by local architecture & design studio, 81font, the 492sqm space is decorated in a creative mix of flea market finds and bespoke furnishings, peppered with fanciful works of art by Hungarian sculptors and photographers.
Revolving around the courtyard, each room has its own distinctive aesthetics and atmosphere. Doboz’ open-air garden is dominated by a striking red box installation which serves as a party venue, and plays host to an amazing 300-year-old tree from where a huge gorilla presides over the revelers.
