Spyros Verykios - I don’t want to dream

Exhibition from May 5th to May 25th Tuesday – Thursday 14.00 – 18.00

Opening on Friday, 5th of May 2017 17.00 – 22.00

The exhibition is organized by CBK, with the support of Malmö Kulturstöd, in cooperation with ABF Malmö.

The Hybriden Art Space in conjuction with CBK, Malmö Kulturstöd and ABF Malmö is pleased to present a series of paintings by Greek artist Spyros Verykios on May 5. Completed in two years, the work involves painting that were created for his 43 pages comic book “ I don’t want to dream” entirely painted in oil.

“I don’t want to dream” is a metaphysical horror story about how an experiment with mindexpanding drugs has unexpected consequences – or is it something else entirely? The borders between what is dream, reality and bedtime story are blurred sometimes.

The whole story will be included in the international comic art magazine

CBA vol 36|37, along with three other stories, by Akab [IT], Elena Guidolin [IT] and Serena Schinaia [IT]. Cover by Radovan Popović [RS].

The theme for this volume isIn the pits of madness.

Let’s plunge together into the pits of madness. Let’s watch the dissolution of reality, let’s dance with clear heads and see where it takes us. Let’s travel the river hiding in the desert sands until the wind rises and we reach the final collapse. Let’s look deep into the eye of the tiger. And see afterwards if we dare to dream. The exhibition opening is also the release party for CBA vol 36|37

CBK

Since 2001, CBK has worked for a more varied and exciting comics culture in Sweden and on the international scene. The formal purpose of the organization is to support, evolve and disseminate comics with higher artistic ambitions. The main vehicle for this purpose is the international comics art magazine, CBA (C’est Bon Anthology). CBK also arranges exhibitions of comics art, lectures, the AltCom comics festival and other cultural events.

The vision is to push the boundaries of what can be done in comics, to broaden the perspective of what the comics medium is and can be, both in relation to itself and to other art forms.
