Art of Patricia Ariel

Patricia was born in 1970 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she lived and worked until moving to the United States. Although part self-taught, she has had some formal instruction in visual arts that included traditional drawing training and fashion design. Besides drawing and painting, Patricia has expressed herself since early age through different artistic languages like theater, dance, and music. Her decision to become a professional fine artist came only later, after leaving her homeland. Inspired by the aesthetics of the turn of the century and sacred art of different paths, Patricia’s art is strongly influenced by her spirituality and insights about the connections of men with nature and magic and the spiritual/psychic dimensions.

Patricia is based in Everett, WA, and is currently represented by Alexi Era Gallery (Oregon). Follow her on Twitter,  Instagram, and Tumblr.

Q : Wearable Captioning Device for Hearing Impaired People to Communicate Better

There are more than 300 million people worldwide suffering from significant hearing loss, Q System has been designed to help them to feel the sounds that they are missing. Q is a wearable captioning device that displays text and graphed emotions, making it easier for hearing impaired people to communicate with others. The system consists of a band that can be worn on user’s hand, an array microphone clip worn on user’s clothing, a special app for smartphone or tablet, and a charging unit.

When someone talks to someone who’s wearing Q, voice is captured by the array microphone, transported to the band via Bluetooth, and then translated to text using voice recognition software. The OLED screen would display the text, user can activate 4 features using finger commands: transcript recording, emoticaptioning, touch speech, and bookmarking.

As automated cargo van, Vision Van wouldn’t complete without integrated drones for autonomous air deliveries that can be controlled using a joystick. Powered by a 75kW electric drive system, this van can reach a range of 270km where deliveries can be done emission-free. The electric drive system also guarantees that it will be possible to operate the van in inner city zones, virtually silent, perfect for residential areas.

Vision Van has been designed with technologies that serve as the central element in a fully connected delivery chain. The smart algorithms control everything, from order picking, loading packages, cargo space management, fastest route planning, to delivery drones.
