Zadok Ben-David is a London based Artist. He was born in Baihan, Yemen in 1949 and immigrated to Israel in the same year. He graduated in advanced sculpture from St. Martin’s School of Art in London and taught at the same institution from 1977-1982. In 1988, Ben-David represented Israel in the Venice Biennale. In 2008, he was commissioned to make a sculpture for the Beijing Olympics. His art always has a relation in magic and illusion as part of his pictorial expression. Prevailing ideas and experiences are linked to civilization and technology, but discovery and innovation bring the artistic notion of fantasy and magic converting the work into serious propositions concerning the absurdity as well as the hope inherent in the human condition. He works primarily as a sculptor often using machine or laser cut metal to produce figurative sculptures of monumental scale, regardless of format. His power of communication is not only visual but is an infinite string of unconscious elements informing our identity and testing our ideas and emotions. His works feature in the collections of important public and private institutions in Europe, East Asia, United States, Israel and Australia.

Art of Dina Brodsky

Dina Brodsky (featured previously) born 1981 is an American contemporary realist miniaturist painter and curator.

Aiming to develop an example of social symbiosis, I have combined memory and skill with the experiences and associations of friends, family, and acquaintances, which enhance each other in a project that expands with rhizomatic potential. From the seed of an idea to the realization of the actual project I seek to create a system of connectivity that speaks to a sense of community and environmental awareness in the subtle form of this simple yet majestic representative of nature.

The Geometric Works of Hubert Ekvall

Hubert Ekvall is a 26 year old student of informatics in UmeƄ, Sweden.

“Most of my works start out as doodles in my sketchbook, I just try to scribble down any visual idea that pops up in my brain. Then later I try to figure out the most interesting ways I can animate these small sketches to create a good story or flow. Sometimes there isn’t any great idea so I might just settle on creating a static piece. A lot of my ideas actually come from my dreams, in fact I used to keep a diary of my dreams. The other most prominent source for my ideas is of course media; old TV-shows, video games and illustrations in books etc. One of the best eras for inspiration is probably the 60’s, 70’s and the early 80’s, there are some old computer science books out there that are just pure works of art! Most of the themes in my art are probably related to nostalgia and surrealism, I’m also very in love with the concept of creating my own micro-worlds where I can dictate any silly rules I want.”

Painting,Film or Photograph, the Extraordinary American Photographer Gregory Crewdson

Gregory Crewdson works within a photographic tradition that combines the documentary style of William Eggleston and Walker Evans with the dream-like vision of filmmakers such as Stephen Spielberg and David Lynch. Crewdson’s method is equally filmic, building elaborate sets to take pictures of extraordinary detail and narrative portent.

When he was ten, Crewdson’s father, a psychoanalyst, took him to see a Diane Arbus exhibition at MoMA, an early aesthetic experience that informed his decision to become a photographer. Work includes the Natural Wonder series, dioramas created by the artist with insects, animals and body parts in small-town settings both mundane and menacing. Recent series include Twilight and Beneath the Roses, everyday scenes with charged, surreal moods that hint at the longings and malaise of suburban America. These pictures are like incomplete sentences, with little reference to prior events or what may follow. The artist has referred the ‘limitations of a photograph in terms of narrative capacity to have an image that is frozen in time, (where) there’s no before or after’ and has turned that restriction into a unique strength.
