Adolfo Esquivel has made Charles Bombardier’s vision into futuristic digital model. Metropolis is a future vision of patrol drone equipped with a holographic avatar programmed to interact with citizens. Charles explains the avatar would look like BIT from the TRON movie with empathy module in order to recognize and understand human emotions. The possibility is pretty high since Pascale Fung, a Professor at the Department of Electronic & Computer Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, is developing an empathy. Currently, in robotic technology, we have access to software and algorithms that can extract emotional cues from humans, so it’s normal that the next revolution would be incorporating these algorithms into robots.

Metropolis features a 5-foot tall wheel shaped drone where its main function would be to patrol the streets and assists the public 24/7. Powered by a liquid-cooled electric motor, this drone is able to drive and recharge itself autonomously. Due to its compact size, it would be easy for this drone to slip between cars, there are 2 internal gyroscopes to make it easy to lean left and right as well as keeping Metropolis upright when it’s slowing down.
As a self driving vehicle, this drone is equipped with multiple cameras and eye tracking software. It can also detect human emotions by using voice analysis and facial recognition, even connected to emotion-based API just like the one developed by Sensaura Tech. These robots would be able to talk in local slang words and even some humors, but they would always be polite and friendly. Each police officer would supervise a small group of Metropolis while working on other more important assignments.
