Sculptures by Daniel Arsham

New York based artist Daniel Arsham (born 1980 in Cleveland, Ohio) straddles the line between art, architecture and performance.

Raised in Miami, Arsham attended the Cooper Union in NYC where he received the Gelman Trust Fellowship Award in 2003. Architecture is a prevalent subject throughout his work; environments with eroded walls and stairs going nowhere, landscapes where nature overrides structures and a general sense of playfulness within existing architecture.

Arsham makes architecture do things it is not supposed to do, mining everyday experience for opportunities to confuse and confound our expectations of space and form. Simple yet paradoxical gestures dominate his sculptural work: a façade that appears to billow in the wind, a figure wrapped up in the surface of a wall, a contemporary object cast in volcanic ash as if it was found on some future archeological site.

Photographs from Ellis Islands - Faces of America by Augustus...

Photographs from Ellis Islands - Faces of America by Augustus Francis Sherman

Augustus Francis Sherman was an amateur photographer and the chief registry clerk at Ellis island during its busiest time.  In 1907 over 1 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island - 3,000 to 5,000 a day.  Some of these migrants had to spend an extended time there and August Francis Sherman was able to persuade them to put on their best clothes for a photograph.  Most of these photographs were taken between 1906 - 1912.

Marina Nikitina (Onil) or  Nikitina Marina Vladimirovna.

Was born and lives in St. Petersburg. Artist, photographer. Works in LightGraphic style. Participated in several joint and individual exhibitions in Russia and Germany. It was several times published in the magazine “Photoworkshop”.    Till an era of LightGraphic, I considered the photo only as sketches for my pictures. Therefore I do not know who I am.  Whether I am photo-painter, whether I am painting photographer   I found for itself a golden mean In LightGraphic!
