Bugatti Atlantean Racing Yacht Pays Hommage to The Bugatti Type 57

The Bugatti Atlantean Racing Yacht is a concept that pays homage to the classic automobile – The Type 57. Incorporating features that gave the vehicle an iconic stance in the automotive industry, its form blends streamline design from the 1930’s with modernized aerodynamics.

The design aesthetic was focused on a low center of gravity, which in turn gave it a better a racing appearance. The hull and its two side supports, are all submerged, creating a large footprint and aids in stabilizing the yacht as well as the substantial length of the craft which accommodates for its balance.

It’s view from a modernist perspective is a sleek, streamlined design, utilizing a single, curved pane windshield that provides a wide panoramic view ahead and blends with the yachts body. Like the 57 Atlantic, from window to rear, it consists of a single curvature. The remainder of the craft, is more reminiscent of its present day counterparts, with slight touches of classically added trim, like the chrome front hand rail. It’s interior supports two passengers and has a small living space inside the hull.

Its dividing fin, which is found at the rear of the craft, emulates that of the dividing line found on the 57 Atlantic, but is used to direct air flow more evenly over the windshield. The entire body consists of a glass fiber construction, which is reinforced by a carbon fiber composite, all of which aids in the crafts lightness, strength and rigidity. Its rear fins, both of which penetrate the water, are articulate and guide the yachts direction as well as its elevation while moving.

This project was an aesthetic venture, focusing mainly on the form of the object and how one could associate a brand identity to a concept, but resulted in a final form factor that looks iconic in its own right.

Stiff Pose Victorian Postmortem photography (140 Pics)

Postmortem photography or memento mori, the photographing of a deceased person, was a common practice in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The photographs were considered a keepsake to remember the dead. Child mortality was high during the Victorian era. For many children even a common sickness could be fatal. When a child or other family member died, families would often have a photograph taken before burial. Many times it was the first and last photograph they would ever possess of their loved one. Many postmortem photographs were close-ups of the face or shots of the full body. The deceased were usually depicted to appear as if they were in a deep sleep, or else arranged to appear more life-like. Children were often shown on a couch or in a crib, often posed with a favorite toy. It was not uncommon to photograph very young children with a family member, most frequently the mother. Adults were more commonly posed in chairs or even propped up on something.
