Aerial Photography of Deserts
From the mighty dunes of the Sahara to the intricate skin-like folds of the Arabian Peninsula, these photographs capture the grandeur of the world’s deserts as seen from space, captured by a range of satellites.
The first photo is from the Great Salt Desert: Iran’s largest desert, which stretches nearly 500 by 200 miles, is named after the salt marshes (kavirs) located there.
The following photo is Namibia’s highest mountain Brandberg Massif, the lushness is in contrast to other Namib desert photos.
China’s bizarre and baffling uniform white lines in the Gobi desert, and its snake-like Taklamakan desert river.
Our fourth photo is the Libyan Desert, located in the southern partthe desert covers an area more than 1,000km in length and width. The desert, which looks like an icy environment from this picture, is in fact almost exclusively sand plains and dunes, with occasional rocky peaks.
Finally, In the Sahara Desert the ancient rock formations are famous for hiding some of the world’s oldest examples of rock art. (via DailyMail)
