The voice of the generation growing up in the 1970s in Poland...

The voice of the generation growing up in the 1970s in Poland -  Wilhelm Sasnal

Wilhelm Sasnal, born in Tarnów, Poland, in 1972, received his diploma of painting in 1999 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Sasnal produces pencil drawings, ink drawings, photographs, videos and paintings.

Sasnal’s work is inspired by photographs – his own or sourced from the press – as well as the internet, TV, street life, history, music, or the physiology of vision. He also creates drawings and cartoons, usually of autobiographic nature, makes short films in 8 mm and 16 mm formats, mostly poetic, non-narrational pictures in which music plays an important role.

His paintings are in prestigious private and public collections, such as the MOMA, New York, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Tate Modern, London, and Centre Pompidou, Paris.

Sasnal is the winner of the Vincent van Gogh Biennial Award for Contemporary Art in Europe 2006. He is a co-founder of the art collective Grupa Ładnie via ingart.pl
