Luke Stairwalker Provides Better Support for Elderly People When Climbing The Stairs

Climbing stairs can be difficult for elderly people and disabled people, keeping this in mind, Luke Stairwalker was designed to help them climbing the stairs easier.

Most often than not, these elderly people can still walk but they are too afraid to fall down, they need a support from another person. This concept is a design proposal to offer a solution to this problem, this mechanical system is not as expensive as stairlift and it doesn’t require a lot of space either. This support device offers better safety for elderly and disabled people, preventing accidental fall or slip on the stair through its improved ergonomics and save grip. The backrest offers a support to lean back, it allows user to take a rest when needed.

Designers : Alexander Abele, Maximilian Brück, and Jens Eisele

Unlike traditional stairlift, Luke Stairwalker can be installed in small staircases without any big construction works. You would only need to attach the customized handrail to the wall, this means that this system can be installed on multiple stairs in public spaces or households. Having this mechanism installed on the stair gives elderly people to maintain their autonomy and create a feeling of safety and confidence.
