Robam Kitchen Fan Set Concept: Nebula, Turbo, and Nest by Juan Restrepo

Robam Kitchen Fan Set concept was inspired by the constant use of kitchen fan when the designer lived in Hangzhou, China. This happened because most Chinese food is stir fried or boiled, therefore, as an industrial designer, he wanted to incorporate beautiful object into modern kitchen.

Nebula: This is a project inspired by nature. As we keep filling our living spaces with technology and electronics, the designer wanted to keep some type of organic inspiration in the kitchen both functional and aesthetic. This kitchen fan is powerful, functional, and beautiful. The touch glass projected interface is only visible when activated, keeping the attention on the movement of the fan. The glass was chosen as the main material since it retains heat well, it is easy to clean, but most importantly because it exposes the beautiful fan in motion, almost like a piece of functional sculpture in your kitchen.

Turbo: This fan is for the heavy duty cooking enthusiasts. It’s meant to be and look powerful. It was inspired by Jet engine design, and the rotational movement of smoke while it is being absorbed. This design stands between a contemporary and a conservative home decor (ex: wooden kitchen). Its interface is on black glass, in order to activate it, you simply press the ON button and the interface will appear. Turbo also has a ring of light with two settings, for ambient light and a spotlight for late night cooking.

Nest: The beauty in Nest is its ability to adapt to the kitchen. The bottom sensor receives data of heat and smoke levels, similar to a smoke alarm. When smoke is detected, the Nest turns on and opens up to expose the ventilation system. Nest also has lighting function, for ambient lighting (decoration) and spotlight for late night cooking. Nest is a smaller system, since it does not have a chimney type ventilation duct, instead it has a washable filter. Although Nest is energy saving solution compared to the larger fans, it is not as powerful, so it meant for the small apartment.
