  2. Dogs are technically wild animals, and you call them pets don't you? Hedgehogs can be pets too. Don't be a douche.

  3. Dogs aren't wild animals, they're domesticated. Same as cats, cows, domesticated pigs etc. Hedgehogs are wild animals.

  4. The definition of "domesticated" is an animal kept as a pet. Therefore, if someone has kept a hedgehog as a pet, it is a domestic animal. Thus, your comment about hedgehogs being wild animals is invalid.

  5. So according to you, if I have a lion in my backyard and i keep it as a pet is it a domestic animal?
    you idiots.

  6. Domestic animal: any of various animals that have been tamed and made fit for a human environment.
In most cases a lion would not be deemed fit for a human environment seeing as it is first and formost a predator... So it would rip anythings face off. A hedgehog is hardly a lion and is definitly easliy tamed, much like a rabbit or a ferret or a pet rat. So please, take a chill pill and follow it up with a glass of to-each-his-own. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Im sure many people would agree with you but there would be plenty of people to agree that hedgehogs make great pets and companions

  7. A hedgehog is a wild animal. Cute yes but it is a wild animal, not bred through generations to be tame and domesticated. Cuteness factor promotion is creating a market for more and more wild animals to be extracted from their rightful environments for short term amusement of bored humans.Every time you buy an unusual pet you provide an excuse for another wild animal to be ripped from its environment by simply creating a market. It is a dilemma for wild life rescue to promote their rehabilitation work by using cuteness factor to promote their cause. Can't people just be happy to encounter and respect animals in the wild and then let them be ?

  9. Not sure where you're getting your facts about hedgehogs not being domesticated.

African pygmy hedgehogs for example are legal to own and can be bred with a USDA license in most states and are becoming more and more common as pets. Most of the breeders I know have been breeding for years and years. They take great care to breed for both temperament (although hedgehogs are very docile, friendly animals to begin with) and health (reputable breeders carefully track bloodlines to avoid genetic conditions such as wobbly hedgehog syndrome). So as a matter of fact, they HAVE been tamed and domesticated.

The hedgehogs pictured above do not appear to be African pygmy hedgies, which are typically the type of hedgehogs that are kept as pets in the United States. These particular hedgehogs may very well be "wild". Keep in mind that there are also many hedgehog rescues across the world (the Hedgehog Welfare Society for example) that routinely take in wild hedgehogs who are ill or injured and later release them into the wild. Since these pictures were clearly taken from a random internet search, you have no idea what the situation is for any of these animals. Therefore, you probably shouldn't be using them as a platform to make judgements of people who choose to keep hedgehogs as pets.

  11. I have a pet hedgehog. They are awesome as pets, and you can train them to use a litter box or scratch at the door when they need to go out to use the bathroom. They are cleaner and and far less evil than owning something like a ferret or an iguana lol.

  12. How exactly does an animal become domesticated if we dont keep them as pets? Dogs and cats started out wild too then one day boom domesticated which is the same thing that will happen with other animals.

  13. Everyone getting all technical at the title... JUST ENJOY THE CUTE ORGANISM.

  14. Wait till domesticated foxes can be purchased. Don't believe me? Google it fools.

Anyway owning a ferret or iguana isn't evil if owning a hedgehog isn't. You can't say certain animals are ok with being pets and others aren't

  15. To say "then one day boom domesticated" is ridiculous. Domestication takes decades of training and breeding, not just one night in a house and suddenly a damn animals domesticated. It's a process that takes forever
