Matt Semke:  Hand Hewn Gif Art

A true American Midwesterner, 38-year old Matt Semke was born in Wisconsin and is now living in Minnesota and working for the Twins Baseball team as a Motion Graphics producer.  He is also a true Gif believer, so much so that he just made a film constructed entirely of gifs (for details see his website).  He has a BFA in Graphic Design and an MFA in Ecological Architecture, but his real talent appears to be illustration and animation, a skill in which he is self taught. He has considerable technical skill but his imaginative and witty gif art almost always looks charmingly hand drawn. whether made with his computer or not.  He embraces the limitations of creating Gif Art, about which he said  “It’s cool to be a part of something that emerged in my lifetime. I love to paint and draw, but gifs and digital art are really just finding their starting place in art history right now.”

Illuminated Landscapes by Barry Underwood

Barry Underwood, born 1963 Wilmington, Delaware received his Masters in Photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art.

The images are documentations of dioramas and full-scale installations that are built on-site in the landscape. Using illusion, imagination, and narrative, my photographs explore the potential of the ordinary. I approach my photographic work with a theatrical sensibility, much like a cinematographer or set designer would. By reading the landscape and altering the vista through lights and
photographic effects, I transform everyday scenes into unique images (…)
