A Look Back At The Isle Of Wight Festival In The ’60s And ’70s (24 pics)

The Isle of Wight festival originally took place during the '60s and '70s before it was revived in 2002. Taking a look back on the original festival, these photos show that people nowadays just don't know how to have as much fun as people did in the '60s and '70s.

English Teacher Won’t Teach Shakespeare Because He’s White and Dead

Shakespeare is arguably the most influential writer of all time. He was a brilliant man whom we owe for many of our common phrases and saying, as well as plot structures that still to this day influence popular television, movies, and plays.

Despite this, the Washington Post has published an editorial from an English teacher in Sacramento who argues students shouldn’t be taught Shakespeare anymore because he is a dead, white man.

Dana Dusbiber (who is white herself) wrote that she avoids Shakespeare because her minority students should not be expected to learn about a “long-dead, British guy.”
Dusbiber claims Shakespeare is only regarded as great because “some white people” declared him to be.

Dana Dusiber

“Why not teach translations of early writings or oral storytelling from Latin America or Southeast Asia other parts of the world? Many, many of our students come from these languages and traditions … perhaps we no longer have the time to study the Western canon that so many of us know and hold dear.”
The answer to her questions is obvious: because you teach English, Ms. Dusbiber. English, which is the language of the British. This point is obviously lost on her as she labels current English curriculum “Eurocentric.” Of course it is, why would an English class be focused on cultures that don’t speak English?

“If we only teach white students, it is our imperative duty to open them up to a world of diversity through literature that they may never encounter anywhere else in their lives,” she says.

“I admit that this proposal, that we leave Shakespeare out of the English curriculum entirely, will offend many.”

So Dusbiber believes white students should be made to study other cultures and minority students should study their own.

She also ignores the many universal lessons of Shakespeare.

Themes of young love, power lust, betrayal, and social injustice are prevalent and all audiences can relate to them. If she wants something more applicable to minorities, Othello is about a Moorish man who faces racism and discrimination.
The real injustice here would be to her students.

Regardless of the race of their author, these are some of the greatest stories ever told. Shakespeare’s influence on writing and the English language is inarguable.

Reading him also expands a child’s vocabulary and provides a study in the evolution of language.

But therein lies the problem. Dusbiber confesses that she has a “personal disinterest in reading stories written in an early form of the English language that I cannot always easily navigate.”

So the real reason for this illogical rejection of Shakespeare is probably rooted more so in her own frustrations concerning her limited ability to navigate the language in which she holds a degree, and less in the fact that he was white and is dead.
This seems to be nothing more than ineptitude masquerading as progressivism. The real shock here is how someone with such an obviously flawed opinion ends up published in the Washington Post. Okay, maybe that isn’t such a shock…

Man Surrenders to Police. Police have him Mauled by Their Dog Anyway

It seems my faith in the American police force to destroy my faith in humanity has once again been restored:

This video, taken from police body cam, was released as part of a lawsuit filed against the West Jordan Police Department by Lee Hoogveldt, who was viciously attacked by the dog. You see, just filming the police is practically worthless if you don’t ARREST them for their crimes….

The officers are seen entering the house and ordering Hoogveldt to raise his hands. He complies, but the cops sic the dog on him anyway, because compliance is defiance in Orwellian American. It goes straight for his face….

In graphic footage, the dog chews on Hoogveldt’s face for several seconds as he groans in agony. The animal bites him in the mouth, causing Hoogveldt to bleed profusely.

Quite clearly in shock, Hoogveldt is then wrestled to the ground and yelled at by cops to cooperate. All the while, the dog, named “Pyro” (yeah, I wonder why they picked THAT name for it, the sickos), is allowed to continue biting Hoogveldt in the legs and backside.

An officer then goes on to “drop” a chair on to Hoogveldt’s head. Oops.  The cops then document his injuries by taking photos, before hauling him away.

Police had been called to Hoogveldt’s house because a neighbour reported that there was a fire in his back yard. Right, call a “pyro-maniac” to deal with a fire…

“To protect the neighbourhood, they had to go in and secure Mr. Hoogveldt,” West Jordan Sgt. Dan Roberts told reporters. “The fire department could not respond to take care of the fires.” However, in the video the cops are heard saying that the fire was nothing, just some stuff burning in a barrel. I guess “saving” this man’s life, AFTER they realized that there was NO DANGER to ANYBODY, means SICCING A KILLING MACHINE ON THIS MAN’S FACE… BECAUSE… BECAUSE REASONS!

Police say that the use of force was justified because Hoogveldt has a “criminal record involving weapons”…. First off, I reckon they thought of that reason AFTER realizing they’d mutilated the innocent man. Second, using that logic, you could shoot a chef in the face “because he was proven to have used sharp pointy objects”.

Sgt. Roberts said that releasing the dog was justified as Hoogveldt “could have easily been hiding a weapon on him.” Yeah, and he could have been a fairy-ninja-queen.

In the footage, one officer is heard saying that he “had to look away” when the dog had Hoogveldt by the face. “When he had him on the mouth, I was like ‘oh my ******’” the cop says to his colleague.

Describing the incident, Hoogveldt said “I didn’t dare to move. I put my hands up and froze. If I would have blinked, I thought I was going to get shot.”

A civil rights case will now be heard in Federal Court.

“There’s a right to be free from unlawful entry, under the Fourth Amendment,” Hoogveldt’s attorney Robert Sykes said. “We have a police officer without a warrant, kicking down a door, and going in someone’s home.”

“At the time and place this force was used, there was no justification at all to sic a police dog on somebody.” the attorney added.

GoDaddy Allegedly Turned Down Job Applicant Because He Was An ‘Obese Christian’ (IMAGE)

A Christian software engineer from Queen Creek, Arizona, claims that he was discriminated against by GoDaddy, an Internet domain registrar based in Scottsdale.

Keith Connolly applied for a job with GoDaddy in April 2014, after he was recruited by the talent acquisition team. Despite some reservations about working for the company because of its “risqué advertisements," Connolly went through the application process.

It was going well, according to Connolly. He completed two telephone interviews and two Skype interviews, and was even summoned to the headquarters in Scottsdale.

“I didn’t mention my faith at all while I was interviewing,” Connolly told Fox News. “I didn’t have a ‘Jesus Saves’ shirt or giant cross. It was just a standard interview.”

Later, Connolly received a generic rejection email which had apparently been sent by the company’s recruiting team. That was the original email, but it came with a forwarded email as well.

“About Keith he's great for the job in skills but he looks worse for wear do we really want an obeese (sic) Christian? Is that what our new image requires of us,” the message in the forwarded email reads.

Connolly was left embarrassed and depressed, he said, and didn’t mention it to anyone until recently. He told his attorney Casey Yontz, and the two sought legal action, but the case was barred under discrimination law because it had passed the statute of limitations, which forbids prosecutors from charging somebody with a crime that was committed a specific number of years ago.

Yontz said that he asked GoDaddy to issue an apology.

“They said they weren't going to apologize and that was the end of it,” Yontz said. According to Yontz, GoDaddy's legal team implied that the email may have been hacked into or manufactured.

GoDaddy also denied the allegations to KTAR, saying they're without merit.

“We believe the allegations are completely without merit and unequivocally deny them," GoDaddy spokesman Dan Race wrote in an email to Fox News.

“GoDaddy intends to vigorously defend itself against these false allegations, including pursuing legal action for fabricating this claim,” Race added.

In 2009, the U.S. Courts for the Ninth Circuit upheld a federal courts’ jury verdict that GoDaddy had retaliated unlawfully against an employee, who was fired for complaining about being discriminated against on the basis of his religion and national origin. They higher court also found GoDaddy violated federal record-keeping requirements after not saving employment applications that were relevant to the case.

ESTETIZACIJA JUGOSLOVENSKIH SPOMENIKA NA PLAKATU

This master thesis implies that shows through a survey the impact the monuments left on the culture, what is their message, and finally what is the relationship of man to monuments. Each nation had its own successes and failures. These monuments tended to be somewhat larger, and in that aim, they succeeded. Yugoslavian monuments are not only a modernist, but have very separate and inherent typology, which is in every respect a monumental and symbolic.Almost all of these monuments were eracted on the historic places that played a certain role. Situated in open countryside they formed an invisible network of symbolic places, which still generate Yugoslav space. Presenting them through six posters, these monuments will show his audience the essence, function and purpose.
