The Light Phone : Simple Credit Card Sized Phone with 20 Days of Battery Life

The Light Phone is a credit card sized cell phone, designed to be used as little as possible. Yes, you read that right, as little as possible. Smartphone does make our life easier in many ways, however, it also makes us miss out on the world around us. The goal of this project is to help people live more consciously with a discreet, credit card sized phone.

The company promises 20 days of battery life, it comes with seamless app integration that allows you to forward calls from your existing phone and stores up to 10 numbers on speed dial. This simple phone allows you to disconnect from notifications and distractions while you can enjoy the present. Light Phone tells time, makes and answers calls, weighs next to nothing. This is a nice gadget to have when you are having dinner with a loved one, playing with your kids, escaping from work, or whenever you need to disconnect for your busy world for awhile without completely stranded.

The timeless design makes this phone doesn’t need to be replaced every year. It’s simple but pretty cool, as an unlocked prepaid phone, you can use it as an emergency back up or as an introduction to mobile phone for children. The thin body allows you to keep this in your wallet, purse, or pocket.

Echoes of Lofoten Hebe Robinson

Around 1950, families in small and remote fishing villages in Lofoten, Northern Norway, were offered a lump sum from the Government to leave their homes and relocate to more central places. They also committed never to return and resettle.

This was part of the governmental plan to centralize and modernize the nation after the Second World War. Communities that had survived for centuries in a hostile environment on the border between steep mountains and rough sea, totally isolated during the winter months, collectively decided to leave.

Neighbors and friends through generations packed everything they owned and left their homes and each other. Villages were totally abandoned within months. Due to shortage of building materials, they dismantled their houses and brought their homes with them as well, leaving only foundations. The traditional self-sufficient ways of life were lost, and a part of the coastal culture with it.

Today, 60 years later, nature has reclaimed the areas. Looking closer however, signs of lived lives still remain; stone fences and foundations still stand, surrounded by hidden paths and traces of gardens with herbs and flowers.

In this photographic project, I am bringing families and their lives back to the villages they once lived. Historic photographs from these places are returned to where they once were taken, linking past and present. The project is about passing of time, history, destinies and changes in society. Pictures and their histories are from descendants of those in the pictures.

Aroc Racing Sledge with Tiltable-Body and Waisted Runners

Initially, the idea here was to design a traditional sports gear with a new touch while keeping a lot of attention to the emotional components when doing sports. Racing sledge was chosen since sledging seemed to have a lot of potential of creating thrilling experiences. The result is Aroc Racing Sledge.

This sledge features tiltable-body and waisted runners, thus, allowing you to make carved and slided turns on the slope. The overall design makes it convenient to use because your feet can always rest on the place and the agility of the construction makes steering easy and safe. It allows you to get a feeling as if riding a motorbike.

Designers : Fabian Kessler, Jeremias Perren, and Yves Aeschbacher

The design features intuitive operation, you can tilt the runners by leaning into the curve just like on a bike. The construction provides responsive and smooth maneuverability just like a vehicle with shock absorption. The handbrake on both sides allow for better balance control over the speed. Aroc Racing Sledge offers simple design without overcrowded features.
