Charlie Davoli Creates Fantastical Worlds on his iPhone

The dreamy landscapes of Charlie Davoli resemble snapshots from a parallel universe. Yet they all come from the hands of the artist, who literally creates unreal worlds by shooting pictures with his iPhone and then editing them with apps like PsTouch, iDesign, Superimpose, Matter, and Mextures. He then posts his fascinating photo collages on Instagram.

Davoli was born in Singapore, but through “a bizarre twist of fate,” at the age of six moved to the homeland of his father, a small town on the Italian peninsula of Salento. His work manifests the fusion of these two cultures in the form of duality: Davoli goes on a Wes Anderson-like way with balance and composition, so that the elements almost always align with each other. Ultimately, his works symbolize two worlds that mirror each other.

Visual paradoxes, perfect symmetry, and optical illusion play an important role for the photo artist. Davoli says, “My inspiration comes from a combination of the supernatural images from the Italian artist De Chirico, my love for geometry of Bauhaus, and the pop culture of Warhol and Lichtenstein… And all with a touch of retro sci-fi. ” Txt via Creators Project

Tara McPherson is an artist based out of New York City.

Creating art about people and their odd ways, her characters seem to exude an idealized innocence with a glimpse of hard earned wisdom in their eyes. She explores through portraiture the realms of our psychological states via myths, legends, astronomy, physics, nature, love, loss, childhood and good old life experience, giving us a peek into the complexities of the human psyche through her otherwordly characters.
