Photographer Luke Shadbolt
Luke is a professional photographer and creative director from Australia. He focuses on the action sports, travel, lifestyle and fashion industries, specializing in water photography.
This editorial was shot on location at the Pink Lake in Western Australia, near Kulnurra. What may look like some ridiculous photo-shopping, is actually the natural color of the water in this lake. It is made possible due to the presence of the carotenoid-producing algae Dunaliella salina, a source of ß-carotene, a food coloring agent and source of vitamin A. The lagoon contains the world’s largest microalgae production plant, a 250 ha series of artificial ponds used to farm Dunaliella salina (via Wikipedia).
