6 Easy Ways to Treat Yourself

sweet-monday-morning-picjumbo-com

Whether you’re male or female, treating yourself to some relaxation can be expensive. Getting a massage, going to a spa or salon, going on vacation—the costs can seem a little overwhelming. Fortunately, I have scoured the universe for some alternate solutions that won’t break the bank. Here are six easy and inexpensive ways to treat yourself.

1. Buy a small massager on Amazon.

Massages are good for you, but they’re expensive. However, I’m not suggesting you go out and get a massage chair, either. Instead, I suggest you invest in a shiatsu neck and shoulder massage pillow, which can also be used to massage your back, stomach, arms, and legs. You can find different brands for under $40 on Amazon, and they come with a warranty. The best part is, now you can get a massage whenever you want!

2. Take a bath.

A common suggestion, I know—but baths are relaxing, and they’re a good replacement for a hot tub. Oh, yeah, and they’re free. You don’t have to go all out with candles and music (though that helps), but I suggest adding some bath salts, and sipping a nice warm beverage, or a glass of wine or beer while you soak up the relaxation. And if baths aren’t your thing, just take a shower (which can also include bath salts), but focus on letting the spray relax your muscles.

3. Pamper your hair and skin.

This suggestion isn’t just for women. There are lots of ways to give your skin and hair spa or salon quality treatment in the comfort of your own home, and without spending a ton of money. Things like face masks, skin creams, and coconut oil are readily available, as well as hair masks, beard oils, muscle soothing creams, and other essential oils. And these aren’t just for relaxing you, they’re nurturing to your body. No more feeling guilty, because you’re taking care of yourself.

4. Curl up and read a book.

I’m sure you’ve heard this suggestion before, too; and maybe I’m biased, but I think reading a book is the perfect way to relax and refresh your mind. Not only does it provide you an inexpensive escape, but it’s good for you! Maybe there’s one in particular you’ve been meaning to buy or check out from the library, or maybe there’s one worn and thoroughly creased on your shelf calling your name. But I don’t have time to read, you say. Well, I say don’t give me that excuse, because another cool thing about books: You can put it down and pick it up again whenever you want—guaranteed, no fine print.

5. Go outside.

Nature is one of this world’s greatest pleasures, and simply stepping outside on a beautiful day can be exponentially invigorating. I recommend taking a walk, even if it’s just walking your dog down the street. If you live in the city, why not venture over to a park? Or, if you live near a forest preserve or national park, you could take some friends or family on a mini road trip and go exploring. Some parks are free, some are not. There are over 400 parks to visit, and 124 of them have an entrance fee, but there is a list of days when all parks offer free admission.

6. Splurge on a really good cup of coffee.

When I say splurge, I don’t mean go totally crazy. I mean if you want Starbucks, or your favorite latte from your favorite local coffee shop, then get it. I mean when you’re at the grocery store trying to decide which bag of coffee grounds to get, don’t just look for the cheapest brand—trust me, good coffee is worth it. Pick out your favorite, or try something new. And when you’ve got that coffee in your hand, savor it. Breathe it in. Enjoy the bliss that is caffeinated excellence in a cup. You’re welcome.

Here is one last piece of wisdom: For the ultimate relaxation, try combining the things on this list (for instance, drink your coffee while reading, or read while sitting with your massager and wearing a face mask). Treating yourself doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. In fact, it should be simple and stress-free.

November Is Diabetes Awareness Month: Here Are 6 Natural Diabetes-Preventing Remedies

diabetes prevention

November is American Diabetes Month,  which means you should raise your awareness of the dangers of developing diabetes and the treatment options available. About 86 million people in America are at risk of developing diabetes because of the high-sugar Western diet and fast food popularity. But mostly it’s because almost 70 percent of adults are either overweight or obese, and 90 percent of type 2 diabetes sufferers are either obese or overweight. Doctors have linked being overweight or obese as a huge risk factor for developing diabetes.

If you’re overweight, here are some natural, healthy ways that can help you prevent developing diabetes and slim your waistline.

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

At least 35 percent of obesity-specializing doctors prescribe phentermine, which is an effective appetite suppressant, because of its effectiveness in lowering their patients’ body weight. Doctors also prescribe it for diabetes management. But phentermine and other weight control pharmaceuticals can be expensive, and possibly wrought with side effects, like swelling and trouble breathing.

But did you know a $5 bottle of vinegar can give you almost the same appetite suppressing effects for months? Researchers found that taking diluted vinegar before eating suppresses your appetite and boosts your satiety. Participants felt less hungry after taking the vinegar and ate less when their meal was presented to them. But researchers think the reason is because the vinegar solution made the subjects feel nauseous.

Taking diluted vinegar right before a meal also directly protects you from and helps treat diabetes. Diabetic participants who took two teaspoons of vinegar right before eating experienced 20 percent lowered blood sugar levels after their meal compared with the control group. The effect lasts five hours, but is less effective the earlier you take it before eating. But if you eat within five hours of drinking two teaspoons of vinegar diluted in water, you’ll have lowered blood sugar levels.

2. Daily Alpha Lipoic Supplements

WebMD says that alpha-lipoic acid supplements can help treat type 2 diabetes. Evidence shows that alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) helps improve insulin resistance. They can also help heal the side effects caused by diabetes, like nerve damage caused by chronic diabetes and damage to retinas.

As a bonus, taking ALA also alleviates any back pain you might be experiencing. Researchers who gave chronic lower back pain sufferers 600 milligrams of ALA experienced so much pain relief that they stopped taking analgesics.

Why is ALA so holistically healthy? Because it’s one of the wholesome nutrients found in tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, and many types of cruciferous vegetables. Not only can eating your greens everyday prevent diabetes, but their fiber keeps you feeling full so you’ll be less likely to overeat. This helps you lose weight. But if you want the full diabetes-preventing effects, you should also take the supplement.

3. Green Coffee Bean Extract

Researchers found that taking green coffee bean extract can help you lose about 6 pounds. Researchers believe this supplement can help curb the obesity epidemic plaguing America.

They also found that it can lower your blood sugar levels if they’re raised too high by your liver. They think this property makes green coffee bean extract a good natural treatment for diabetes.

4. Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting can help you lose weight and prevent diabetes too. It goes by many names since many fad diets are variations on it. Even if you’re not familiar with what intermittent fasting is, you’ve already done it if you’ve ever skipped a meal – because that’s all it is! But when you intermittently fast intentionally you usually eat on a set schedule such that you’re “intermittently fasting.”

If you do the math, skipping a meal everyday means you’re taking in less calories everyday. Logically, you would lose weight if you’re taking in less calories than you’re spending because of the missing meal. In fact, when researchers studied participants who underwent intermittent fasting, they found these participants lost 10 percent of their extra fat. But besides the math, intermittent fasting also directly boosts your metabolism, which is another reason why you’ll weight. Why? Researchers discovered that when you fast, your body goes into survival mode, which is what your body does when you exercise vigorously.

According to nutrition expert Brad Pilon, intermittent fasting also improves your insulin sensitivity, which helps prevent and treat diabetes. For better weight loss results, he advises that you stick to water, black coffee, tea, sparkling water, and maybe diet soda when on your intermittent fasting diet.

5. Red Wine

Here’s a weight loss drink you’ll be more than happy to drink – wine! This party and romantic beverage can cut down how much fat you gain by 40 percent. It also improves your heart the same way that exercising moderately for an hour does. So if you’re about to eat a big dinner, a glass of red wine keeps your weight gain down by almost half. Red wine may also help you lose weight because it promotes your stagnant fats to burn actively without you exercising.

Red wine is also filled with nutrients, like vitamin B and iron, and loaded with antioxidants. These antioxidants help ward off chronic diseases.

If you drink red wine once a day, you help prevent diabetes by cutting how much excess fat your body stores. Doing so also protects your heart and body from serious illnesses. As a bonus, red wine has also been found to slow aging by repairing your DNA.

6. Protein Powder

Protein powders aren’t just for building muscle. Researchers found they can help you lose weight and help prevent and treat diabetes too. They found that taking whey protein lowers your insulin and blood sugar levels (while also obviously boosting your muscle growth).

Choose rice protein powder because it’s been found to lower blood sugar levels and boost fat burning better than casein protein powder. Also, researchers found that vegetable-based protein powders protect your heart, kidneys, and boost your immunity while animal-based protein powders don’t really offer these extra benefits.

This November, boost your diabetes prevention or treatment with these natural, holistically healthy remedies. They not only keep diabetes at bay, but also protect you from other diseases and help you slim down.

5 Tips to Help You Accessorize Like Celebs

accessorize-like-celebs

If you read the tabloids and follow celebrities on social media, it’s easy to feel like the only way to be fashionable is by spending thousands of dollars on designer brands.

However, this simply isn’t true. Anyone can accessorize like the celebs if they understand a few important concepts.

1. Pair Jewelry With Your Neckline

How many times have you stood paralyzed in your closet or in front of the bathroom mirror, holding two different necklaces, trying to decide which one to wear with that dress? Well, did you know that there are actually some guidelines and rules of the thumb that allow you to choose the right jewelry based on the neckline you’re wearing?

Going strapless? Keep things simple with a short necklace and bracelet. Deep V? A nice ring and statement bracelet is perfect. Scoop neck? Try a short necklace and stud earrings. Check out this article from Diamondere for comprehensive guidance on what jewelry compliments different outfits.

2. Follow the High-Low Rule

It can help to have some rules in place to simplify the process of accessorizing. As a result, you can get dressed up in just a fraction of the time that you used to. One such rule you need in your back pocket is the high-low rule.

“If accessorizing your outfits does not come easily, just remember the high-low rule,” says one fashion blogger. “Choose one high necklace (sits higher on your chest) and one that hangs lower. The combination of the two always works. And keep them fairly dainty so it does not overpower you or your outfit. This works for everything from t-shirts to dresses.”

3. Stack Bracelets

If you’re going for a casual look – maybe a blouse and jeans – bracelets can really spruce things up a bit and give you that added flare that makes people look twice. However, one bracelet won’t really do much. That’s why celebs and stars are into stacking bracelets.

By stacking bracelets, you can draw attention to your wrists and make a statement. The key to successful stacking is to mix the variety up – both in color and style. There are also times when you should stack a little – say three bracelets – and times where it’s acceptable to stack a lot (seven, eight, or nine-plus bracelets). It all depends on whether you’re trying to dress up your outfit or dress it down.

4. Accessorize Focal Points

“Focal points are things that attract attention such as a bright color or a striking design,” stylist Jane Liddelow says.

The aim is to use focal points to attract attention to your good points and minimize or detract from your figure challenges! If you want to look taller and slimmer, try to bring the eyes up with jewelry above the neckline. If you want to appear shorter and curvier, jewelry below the neckline can draw the eyes downwards.

5. Try Something New

Ultimately, you have to be willing to try new things. Celebrities don’t wear yesterday’s fashions or hesitate to adopt a new fashion trend. They are quick to move and aren’t afraid to try an accessory or technique that’s unconventional. Instead of fighting off that next trend and only adopting it after everyone else has, try to be one of the first ones to the proverbial party.

Nail the Details

Successfully accessorizing on a regular basis is all about paying attention to the details. Whether it’s choosing a necklace based on a neckline or strategically placing bracelets to accentuate focal points, the celebrities know what they’re doing. You don’t have to be in Hollywood to look and feel like a star! Just find your style and make the most of it.

Make sure to consult experts for perfect installation and desired beauty.

Get a warranty

Make sure to get the longest warranty there is just in case there is any misfortune within the warranty time. This will save you money, for the company will pay you or replace the blind for you. Make sure to get a long lasting warranty to avoid spending money unnecessarily on something expensively bought.

Procure your blinds from genuine and trusted suppliers

Before buying, inquire from friends and relatives who own blinds from genuine suppliers. This is a good way to buy a good, long lasting blind that will serve its purpose.

Insure your blind

We live in a world where anything can happen at any given time. Insuring your blind puts you at an advantage. Insure it against disasters like fire, for the materials can easily catch fire.

9 Ways To Make the Most Out of Black Friday Deals

black-friday

Black Friday is basically the day after Thanksgiving. However, this is not the reason why this day is of interest to people; Black Friday is best known as the day when retail shops decide to treat their customers to special offers for a limited time period.

It is regarded as the start of Christmas shopping. Most major retailers tend to open very early and offer promotional sales. Additionally, most employers give day offs to their employees and therefore retailers take advantage of this and give enticing offers to attract traffic to their shops.

The secret is to make the best out of these deals and save a lot of money during your Christmas shopping. Here are some few tips that will help you strategize and make the best out of Black Friday;

1. Start by creating your own budget

Be sure to include all expenses like food, presents, entertainment or décor. Calculate the amount for each and see how much you will actually need. Once you have a clear visual on the expenses incurred, the next step will be to prioritize the items of high necessity and allocate low sums of money to those that are least important.

Use the total amount to determine how much you intend for spending on Black Friday. This will enable you to set a reasonable budget based on the items you plan on buying.

2. Avoid impulse buying

It is good to plan ahead of time, know the kind of items you actually plan on buying to avoid impulse buying. It is easy to get swayed by Black Friday’s sweet deals and find yourself taking home items you did not need.

3. Start shopping early enough

The best way to beat the long queues and hours spent lining up is by planning and starting your shopping early. Do not wait until Black Friday but rather ,start your shopping on Thanksgiving night. As many retailers open on Thanksgiving night, you will be able to capitalize on the amazing deals and discounts.

4. Use the internet to check on online deals

It is advisable to check online deals first before heading to the store. You may find great online deals that may help you fight the Black Friday scramble. My Fav Deals is one site that I constantly check almost every year to make sure I don’t miss any good deals out there in general.

5. Ensure that your credit cards are ready

Before Black Friday comes along, you should be in a position to know which of your credit card will give extra discounts on every purchase you make. Make sure to check your cards for any extra cash back in rotating categories and keep alert for any caps on purchases. Taking advantage of credit card discounts will really save you a lot of cash.

6. Ask a friend to accompany you

Shopping with a friend is more fun and can really help in landing you major deals. Together, you will be able to cover more ground and access all corners of the store. This will truly increase your chances of taking care of every item on your list.

7. Bring along all the Appropriate Ads with you

Bring all relevant ads along with you in order to take advantage of retailer’s price matching policy. Keep in mind that many retailers offer price matching. Therefore, taking advantage of these guarantees a lot more than just mentioning a better deal from a competitor.

Make sure to at least make paper copies of the ads in case you haven’t downloaded Apps that store Black Friday ads.

8. Make sure you make all payments with your credit card

Opting to carry a large amount of cash for your Black Friday shopping might not be such a good idea. Furthermore, using your credit card for the purchases will reap you rewards and earn you purchase protections and extended warranties.

9. Make sure to check all store policies

Price matching is perhaps one of the best money-saving secrets on Black Friday. Retailers will tend to match the competitor pricing, which creates two incentives. One is that it saves you time and fuel through reducing the number of visits to the store. Secondly, you are able to take full advantage of product popularity discrepancies between stores.

Black Friday is the day you get to prove how well-organized you are. Prepare early, adjust yourself and start shopping long before anyone else gets around to it. Do not wait for the last minute; take the initiative to avoid scrambling with others in queues.
