The Beautiful Ladies of Sylvia Ji

I’ve been a fan of Sylvia Ji’s for quite some time. Her paintings of women, often in the vain of Dia de los Muertos, evoke beauty and lust in the viewer, while simultaneously hitting home the idea of life and death. The baroque and Parisian feel of her paintings, mixed with Mexican themes, produce images of immense beauty and texture.

Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Ji eventually went on to receive a Bachelor’s of Fine Art from the Academy of Art University. Ji currently resides in LA, and her work has been featured in galleries and magazines across the world. Follow her on Instagram.

Esther Goh

How things are, they don’t need to be; how things appear are not necessarily how they are. There feels a grave acknowledgement of the status quo in Esther Goh’s works, a serious nodding that there are many aspects of our modern life that seem written in stone. But there is also a wonderfully colorful rejection of these things, a celebration of stone coming to life, of old skin being shucked off, and of the transformative beauty of stretching a little beyond the normal and expected, the sun that comes from changing perspective.

French-born, Berlin-based artist, MTO’s work is characterized by incredibly detailed renditions of popular actors and musicians with a dash of red as his signature or around his work as a signifier of its boundaries. The photo-realistic nature of MTO’s work, with the constant attention to small detail, makes it spring into life.
