The Genius of Douglas Bicicleta

Everything that’s cool. Everything you like, all the music, drugs, food, sex, religion, art, fresh air—all the things you would experience in your perfect day. Take all that and compress it, put it in the pressure cooker, and add just about every color capable of being seen by the human eye. Do that and you have Douglas Bicicleta’s work.

You know where else you can find everything you like? That’s right, the Cross Connect Facebook page. Why don’t you mosey over there now?

Found Object Sculptures by Peter McFarlane

Peter McFarlane is a conceptually based sculptor and installation artist who received a BFA from York University in 1982. He has exhibited widely in both commercial and public galleries over the last two decades and his work is in many private collections.

To me, waste is just lack of imagination. This belief carries beyond the boundaries of my art production and permeates most aspects of my life. Most of my home and studio, and much of everything in them, is recycled.

I’ve always had an epic imagination along with a driving desire to make things. Thus, used objects have pared my options down to a workable, manageable level. No object is beyond artistic merit, meaning and metaphor. So why throw it out?

The materials of my work are connected intrinsically to my ideas, be they tailored beyond recognition or left as found. Each piece I make resurrects an object as an idea specific to the material and the meaning inherent in its use. The history of the object from the manufacture to the dumpster embellishes its contexts and the possibilities I have to manipulate them. I have often made a connection with the objects that I’ve used in my everyday life or work experience: that which I know.

Peter lives and works on Salt Spring. You can visit Peter’s Saatchi Art profile for more.

Bell & Ross AeroGT Concept Car Inspired by Aviation

Inspired by Grand Tourers a.k.a Grand Turismo in Italian, Bruno Belamich, Bell & Ross creative director, has designed Bell & Ross AeroGT. Each year, in order to create new models, he needs new sources of inspiration. Following the success of B-Rocket motorbike, he wanted to go further by designing a concept car. This project aimed to come up with a car that can hold its own, even amongst automotive professionals. AeroGT became the starting point for the creation of a new pair of watches, BR 03 AeroGT models.

Bell & Ross AeroGT concept car celebrates the legend of racing cars which were produced in the land of Pasolini in the 50s, particularly Ferrari 250 GTO, designed to be both great speeds and on the track. This project is a supercar inspired by aviation where Bell & Ross is keeping in touch with its aeronautic roots. This car is extremely low and aerodynamic, it has 4.7 meter long body that seems to split the air like an arrow. Just like some stealth aeroplanes, the body features pointed form with sharp angles and cutting overhangs. From above, the drop-shaped glass roof reminds of the glass cover of a jet cockpit.

Something is a bit odd, if you take a look at the wing mirrors, those are razorthin mirrors. Inspired by small wings called canards, which usually placed on the nose of a jet fighter. There are 2 unusually sized exhaust pipes evoke turbojet engine exhausts, you can also notice the turbine style rims imitate the vanes of supersonic aircraft engines. You’ll be amazed with impressive detail of the rear longitudinal aileron, it’s been designed as reminiscent of an aircraft’s vertical stabilizer. The main role of this element is to stabilize the racing car when performing quick turns. Basically, Bell and Ross AeroGT combines motoring and aviation to the greatest possible degree.

Artist: Ernest Pignon-Ernest

Ernest Pignon-Ernest (born 1942) is a Fluxus and Situastionist French artist, born in Nice.

Since 1966, using paste-ups, he creates ephemeral images on the walls of the large cities that make echo the events there. He is one of the initiators of the Urban Art in France, 25 years before Banksy, and as much as sensitive to injustices. His themes cover abortion (Tours, Nice, Paris, 1975), expelled people (Paris, 1979), AIDS ( Soweto, 2002), The Apartheid and what happened in Nagasaki / Hiroshima. His main inspiration comes from Caravaggio and we can say that he masters his technic.
