Artist’s Meticulously Detailed Paintings Play with Perceptions of Size

Using canvases of all different dimensions, artist Michael Zavros is able to paint incredibly meticulous works of art. From paintings that can be held in the palm of your hand to those that are larger than the average human being, Zavros has tackled it all. But no matter what the artwork’s size is, his work is always impeccably detailed to the point where it is reminiscent of a photograph.

With oil paints and a detail brush in hand, the painter creates short, precise brushstrokes that are barely visible. His technique is especially effective within the detailed paintings of horses and dogs, whose fur appear to blend seamlessly together. When it comes portraying the human figure, the artist flawlessly creates visual harmony in the way he captures the minute glimpses or larger-than-life interplay of light and shadow.

To add to his set of figurative and photorealistic paintings, Zavros also uses his skilled hand to recreate delicate flowers in crystal vases, sharp architecture, and vibrant articles of clothing. As a whole, Zavros’s portfolio offers a diverse variety of subjects, in addition to his range of canvas sizes. The common ground for his body of work is that each and every single creation highlights the artist’s keen eye for detail through his skilled abilities.

Wei Yan

Painter and sculptor Yan Wei aka Kokomoo lives and works in Bejing. Her acrylic pieces combine a background of dense, dark foliage with animal creatures, most of them glass-like deer that contain human beings. Sometimes these people seem trapped within the animal, acting out their frustrations and urges through them, but others appear peaceful, perhaps even seeing through animal eyes. There’s an interesting contrast between the realistic, detailed human faces and the almost toy-like, round shapes of the deer’s heads.
