Graffiti Geisha by HUSH

HUSH is originally from the UK, but worked in Japan for several years as a toy designer enabling him to draw upon Japanese culture as an outsider with an objective eye. Considered one of the most technically gifted urban artists, Hush’s contemporary paintings, limited edition prints, street art & murals explore themes of sexuality & pornography, contrasting the representation of women in traditional & modern eras.  |  Previously on XC

The Dystopian Surrealist In Zdislav Beksinski

Works from the Polish painter, photographer and sculptor whose specialty was dystopian surrealism. In the late 1960s, Beksiński entered what he himself called his “fantastic period”, which lasted up to the mid-1980s. This is his best-known period, during which he created very disturbing images (as seen above), showing a surrealistic, post-apocalyptic environment with very detailed scenes of death, decay, landscapes filled with skeletons, deformed figures and deserts. These paintings were quite detailed, painted with his trademark precision. At the time, Beksiński claimed, “I wish to paint in such a manner as if I were photographing dreams”.

Collages by Kostis Pavlou

Kostis Pavlou is a graphic designer, illustrator and lover of vintage from Greece.

Kostis Pavlou is one of the lucky people blessed enough to remember almost their every dream. One of his favourite is when he saw himself being recreated one pixel at a time by Storm Thogerson and obtain weird limbs and eyes by Salvador Dali’s brush. His surrealistic perception of things as well as his repugnance for anthing realistic around him, pushed him towards the arts. He has come a long way since being a graphic artist in the small town of Katerini, transforming into a traveller of digital collage and a huntsman of the implausible: a door on the surface of the sea, a car in the clouds and an elephant in his desk drawer.
