Automata Graphics: Industrial Neon Factory

Automata Graphics aka Spencer Sterling is a man of many interests having studied architecture & graphic design. He is currently tackling computer science for visual media at university. He creates these hypnotic GIFs as experiments to help him master 3d software & realize his ultimate goal of cutting visuals live the way DJs mix beats.

I started doodling in highschool & got obsessed with extremely intricate black & white patterns. At a certain point, I realized that drawing can only express a small part of what I really wanted to do which is… manipulate 3D animation the same way music is made.

Paintings by David FeBland

David FeBland was born in London, England and has received professional degrees from The University of Virginia, USA and The University of Manchester, UK. A fully self-taught artist, FeBland pursued careers in Landscape Architecture and Communication Design as well as hosting jazz radio programs before turning his full-time attention to painting in the mid-1980’s.

FeBland’s work considers issues of privacy, conflict and isolation in contemporary urban life, employing a colorist’s eye and a strong sense of formal compositional structure. He describes the interaction between man and his physical universe through a series of invented truths, a sleight of the facts as it were, inspired by observations of everyday life throughout the world. His paintings, drawing upon experiences over a wide range of geographical locations, are driven by a conviction that certain behavioral responses to ones environment are universal.

Explosive Paintings

Canadian fine artist Sean William Randall creates awesome explosive paintings of flaming cars streaking across the sky. Lets be honest everyone imagined these scenarios when they were kids playing with toy cars.

Magical Painting by Chris Berens

Chris Berens is painter from the Netherlands who was inspired by the old Masters like Rembrandt and Vermeer.  He was previously featured a year ago.  His paintings are decidedly surreal and contain dense imagery populated by protective animals.  What gives his paintings such an extraordinary appearance and feeling is his technique.

Chris’ s technique is described on his website:

  • In short:
  • All paintings are 180 grams A4  inkjet paper sheets, hand painted on with mainly drawing inks. Also used: bistre and graphite. The paper consists of 3 layers: an emulsion, a plastic coating and a paper underlayer. The emulsion swells up when in contact with the inks and will slowly dry up. This process is repeated with each thin layer of ink that is added. The plastic coating has a fine grid in which the dried up inks and emulsion will set. Inks and emulsion can be manipulated into the grid.
  • The painted area of the sheets are covered with a thin layer of  several types of coating varnish.
  • The paper part of the sheet is separated from and (partially) washed off the plastic layer.
  • The back of the plastic sheet is painted with white ink. Parts opaque, parts transparent and parts left untouched.
  • Elements of the sheet are selected, cut and mounted on wooden panel with bookbinder’s glue.
  • A thin layer of  alkyd coating varnish is added.
  • The ritual is repeated. VIA

This technique is like magic, and the results are like magic.  I first came across Chris’ remarkable work on pressureprinting.com.

Joshua Roman is a California based fine artist and illustrator.
His distinct colorful works have been shown in galleries around the country. His use of vibrant rainbow lines and shapes as well as playful creatures often contrast the eerie and sometimes sensual subject matter of his pieces. Artist portraits are unique and original while still capturing the essence of the subject.
