Ironic Sculptures by Matthias Verginer

Matthias Verginer born 1982 in Bressanone, is an Italian sculptor. His works are full of humor. Verginer’s sculptures celebrate an imagination which at first glance seems ambiguous and funny, but the laugh they provoke does not appeal to sentiment, rather, in the words of Henri Bergson, “It appeals to intelligence pure and simple”. His artworks do not just entertain and charm us, they also invite us to reflect on the mechanisms with which we perceive reality, its questionable or absolute truth and its changing or immovable aspects.

Artist lives and works in Ortisei (BZ), Northern Italy. Follow him on Facebook.

The Extraordinary Comic art of The Master Alex Ross

Looking back, it makes perfect sense that Alex Ross would become one of the world’s most pre-eminent and well-respected comic book artists. It’s a job he’s been preparing for nearly all his life.

Born in Portland, Oregon, and raised in Lubbock, Texas, Alex made his artistic debut at three when, according to his mother, he grabbed a piece of paper and drew the contents of a television commercial he’d seen moments before. Ross came from an artistic family: his mother was a commercial artist and his grandfather, he recalls, “built working wooden toys and loved drawing.” When Ross discovered Spider-Man on an episode of The Electric Company, his life was changed forever. “I just fell in love with the notion that there were colorful characters like this, performing good, sometimes fantastic deeds,” Ross says. “I guess I knew this was what I wanted to do. I wanted to bring these characters to life.”

Photos From Burning Man 2015

Every year, participants in the Burning Man Festival descend on the playa of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to form a temporary city a self-reliant community populated by performers, artists, free spirits, and more. An estimated 70,000 people came to Burning Man 2015, “Carnival of Mirrors”, from all over the world to dance, express themselves, and take in the spectacle. Gathered below are some of the sights from the festival, photographed by Reuters photographer Jim Urquhart.

I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. My love for photography began after a head injury in my teens left me without the dexterity in my hands and made it hard to communicate verbally for a time. My dad gave me his camera to use after a therapist suggested it would be good outlet for myself. I began my career in 1995 working as ski and snowboard photographer. Since then I have worked as a reporter, photo editor and photojournalist. I began shooting with Reuters in 2010.
