Delicate Paper Cut by Maude White

Paper-cutting artist Maude White  b. 1986 in Buffalo, NY, continues to astound us with her painstaking illustrations cut from single sheets of paper.

When I cut paper, I feel as if I am peeling back the outer, superficial layer of our vision to reveal the secret space beneath. With paper cutting there are so many opportunities to create negative space that tells its own story. Letting the observer become present in the piece allows him or her to look through it. I like the idea of the stark contrast between the black and white paper, and the cut nature of the work makes my art more three-dimensional than paint on canvas.

In addition the Art Fair raised thousands of dollars for local arts charities. There were also additional satellite activities showcasing local art and museums, including the Seattle Art Museum.  The above art includes:

Swept Away By Color - Art by Jen Stark

Artist Jen Stark creates awe inspiring works that seem to go forever.  Her layered works draw the viewer into a never ending gloriously colorful descent.  Some of her works are sculptural, others are large installation murals.  Jen Stark also creates animation.  Thanks to The Contemporist!

Art by Burhan Dogancay

Burhan Cahit Doğançay (1929 – 2013) was a Turkish-American artist best known for tracking walls in various cities across the world for half a century, integrating them in his artistic work. Dogançay was fascinated by urban walls and chose them as his subject. He saw them as the barometer of our society and a testament to the passage of time, reflecting social, political and economic changes, frequently withstanding the assault of the elements and the markings left by people. via
