Exploring cosmology through intricate drawings of animals by Lauren Marx

Lauren Marx is an illustrator based in Saint Louis, Missouri. Since Lauren was a child she has been obsessed with animals: she spend a lot of time in the zoo and watching the National Geographic channel. In high school she expanded her interest with collecting bones, feathers and books and studying biology. The knowledge of anatomy and nature shows in Lauren’s intricate drawings: the animals are shown both in- and outside, and are all highly detailed. On her website Lauren explains:

“Cosmology, biology and anatomy have always been intriguing to me. My attraction to the topics have compelled me to find a way to create images that combine elements from these dissimilar fields to shape a universe that reflects my unique understanding of the Cosmos.

Beautiful pencil portraits by Norwegian artist Natalie Foss.

“I work mostly with color pencils and colored paper, with focus on feelings and expressions.

I usually find inspiration in people, music, animals, subcultures, feelings, fashion, thoughts and a good cup of coffee. I love colors, faces and quirky things, and enjoy experimenting.”
