Spot Stick : Detachable Device to Help Blind Person Uses Public Transportation in India

“Spot Stick” concept is a modular product that can be attached to a cane. This concept device has been specially designed for Indian Blind people. An Ethnographic research was conducted in India where there are 3 major problems faced by the blinds being identified. When a blind person uses public transportation in India, it’s hard for them to identify the bus route numbers. Due to miscommunication they might end up in the wrong destination, they face problems while crossing the road at night time and while walking in the crowded place. Spot Stick concept features RIAS (Remote Infrared Auditory Signage) receiver technology that helps the person to receive the bus number and routes name directly from the bus. The bus has a built-in infrared transmitter that sends a directional signal to a hand held receiver which then plays the transmitter’s audio message through a speaker or an earphone.
