House IV by De Bever Architecten

De Bever Architecten have designed House IV, a private residence in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Description

The house is situated on a corner lot in the typical 30’s district ‘de Elzent’ against the natural landscape of the Dommel valley, in the center of Eindhoven. The existing main house is relatively small in structure, however, the lot size is sufficient enough to resist an carefully threaded extension. An extension where extra comfort is added to the existing house.

The transparent addition to the house is a continuation of an earlier exterior expansion with thin floating concrete eaves. These overhangs give a balanced picture, allowing the spaces seamlessly to blend, and gives the garden an intimate enclosed character.

The sightlines are important, creating separate spaces as a study niche, a lowered seating area with wide windowsills and a hanging fireplace. The roof connects the spaces seamlessly into each other.

Much attention is paid to careful detailing. Positioning of roof lights, (curved) walls, steps, niches which store the curtains, floor heating and cooling ceiling, acoustic panels and lighting are seamlessly concealed and determine the appearance and character of the area.

Wine Chillers by Joe Doucet with Neal Feay Studio

These Wine Chillers were exclusively designed by Joe Doucet and crafted by Neal Feay Studio, California. This project is a part of annual Handmade Exhibit, instead of creating objects, this designer wanted to create a ritual. Place a chilled bottle of wine inside the container, it will prevent cold from escaping and keep the wine cool. The engraved textures with varying depths that wrap the chillers are inspired by wind patterns of cold fronts and they move around the globe.

Patrol Ultralight Concept Aircraft by Ekaterina Dekhtyarenko

Patrol Ultralight Concept Aircraft has been designed for fire-prevention patrol, patrol of reserves zones, ice and trade investigation, search and rescue works. It’s compact, easy to use and assembly, and uses only modern eco materials. Ekaterina Dekhtyarenko explains that the main goal of this project is to offer an aircraft that has good flight characteristics, affordable, safe, and economic.

The wing represents system of blocks from a framework and fitted by synthetic fiber. These blocks are joined by means of special connections, forming a monolithic wing. Assembly is made from blocks which can be done easily and transported.

The wing consists of some basic elements: management wheel, motor and suspension bracket fastenings. At the edges of a wing control units there are elevons (aircraft control surfaces) to maneuvers the aircraft. The pilot lies down on the ergonomic support frame made from carbon fiber for optimum flight condition and avoiding strong overloads.
