Locomotive Ranch Trailer by Andrew Hinman Architecture

Andrew Hinman Architecture have designed the Locomotive Ranch Trailer in Uvalde, Texas.

Description

One of the client’s cherished possessions is a vintage streamlined aluminum house (not travel) trailer, and he wanted to relocate the trailer to the family’s favorite spot on their South Texas ranch overlooking the Nueces River. Given the fragile geology and the flash-flood prone nature of the riverside location, the trailer’s foundation and protection required special considerations. The resulting solution is a steel-framed, metal-roofed cradle, right at home amongst the existing rain barns and ranch equipment sheds. The cradle lifts the trailer above the flood plain and provides accessory components, sweeping river views, and safe access to the fishing/swimming hole. The cradle is anchored by a concrete blockhouse containing utilities, storage, and bathroom and topped by a screened sleeping loft. Rainwater harvesting is SOP in South Texas. The trailer interior is refurbished with bamboo panels. Interior lighting is provided by LED cove & mini-spots. The Ipe and Douglas Fir decking is FSC certified.

Mosaiculture Exhibition 2013 at Montreal Botanical Garden

Considered the world’s most prestigious competition of horticultural art, the 2013 edition of Mosaiculture is currently on display at Montreal Botanical Garden in Quebec, Canada. More than three million flowers were raised in greenhouses throughout Quebec, and then shipped to the gardens in May, where designers wrapped them in steel meshes to create living works of art. The sculptures are created using steel or aluminum forms that are wrapped in metal mesh, filled with earth and planted with flowers, ivies and grasses whose foliage provides texture and color. Interior watering systems and growing medium were added so that the flowers could last all through the summer till the end of the exhibition on September 29.

Some 50 works graces the 2.2 km circuit through the enchanting grounds of the Botanical Garden. The theme this year is “Land of Hope”. About 200 of the world’s most talented horticultural artists are taking part in this international competition, representing 20 countries. Entries have come from cities in countries as far as Turkey and Uganda, with China and Japan heavily represented.

Mother Earth: Lise Cormier's masterpiece sets the tone for the Land of Hope theme of this year’s Mosaiculture exhibition. The mountainous matriarch's torso rises 15 meters in a prairie where horses and bison roam. Deer amble down her outstretched arms. Her hair is planted with geraniums and petunias, her skin is santolina. Photo credit

Stair-Rover Skateboard Offers A Smooth Ride Over Rough Surfaces

We believe the Stair-Rover skateboard design takes “When the going gets tough, the tough get going” principle as its inspiration. Skateboarding over rough surfaces or in this case stairs can be pretty dangerous, you might end up with broken bones or concussions. The challenge here is to come up with a skateboard design that allows you to surf the entire city. Well, challenged accepted, Po-Chih Lai has come up with unique 8-wheeled mechanism to make the board can cruise on pavements or glide down steps smoothly, it moves over rough path with ease. When you use this board on a flat ground, it will work just like any other traditional longboard, but when you move over uneven paving or rough surfaces, the chassis will make your ride smooth by reducing any impact.

Show off your skateboarding skill, reach the top of the stairs and slide down, let the gravity and patent-pending V-Frame design do the work. Those wheels bounce up and down to conform to the shape of each step, this balancing act provides smoother ride to the bottom.

Duo Camera Offers New Self-Portrait Experience

Do you like taking selfies? Duo camera concept would take natural portrait of you, it’s engaging and it offers new self photo-taking experience. Basically this project consists of 2 detachable camera with synchronized triggers, so when one of the triggers is pushed by either party, both cameras would take pictures simultaneously and the result can be seen at the bottom the screens. In this way, other people can also engage in these self-images, this is a great idea as some people don’t feel comfortable being photographed or taking self images. At the same time, you can be both the photographer and the subject, documenting and being documented would be much more fun. Everyone can be included in the picture here, there’s no need to exclude anyone just because this person is the one who takes the photo in an event.
